Sorry these posts are so sporadic. I’m back in hospital this week, Guy’s Hospital this time. I am awaiting a course of chemotherapy starting tomorrow. (What?) My original diagnosis of four months ago was wrong, we discovered only this week. What news!

Instead of an untreatable colon cancer they predicted would see me dead by now, I have a highly treatable lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell type. Of course after at least four years of it growing undiagnosed, there may be all kinds of practical issues like side effects, which I’ll learn this week.  It’ll probably be uncomfortable, but I’m told that experience varies a lot. The prediction, after probably six months’ worth of 21-day treatments, is a fair degree of remission, potentially even a cure. Well as ever, we will see. I hope that I’ll be able to continue at least some teaching during this period, but it may not be possible. Next week will decide it, and I’ll let you know.
